Set of 8 Frontier Land frosted tumblers

This is a complete set of the 8 Frontier Land tumblers sold as premiums at Frontier gas stations in the 1950s. The Frontier Refining Company was founded by Maurice H. “Bud” Robineau in 1940 when he purchased a small refinery in Cheyenne, WY. During WWII, the government built, but Frontier constructed and operated, a second refinery adjacent to the original that produced high-octane aviation fuel. At the end of the war, Frontier bought the second refinery from the government and converted it to produce automotive fuel. Frontier, now headquartered in Denver, also operated numerous gas stations in CO, IA, ID, KS, NE, NV, MT, ND, SD, and WY. A May 28, 1959 Frontier ad in the Provo Daily Herald advertised the Frontier Land tumblers for 19 cents each with the purchase of 10 gallons of the “fastest gas in the West.”

Each tumbler has a different scene as follows:

Frontier Society - Three ladies in fancy mid-19th century dresses gather in front of the Pipers Opera House. Colors are orange, green, brown and black on a completely frosted background.

Rush for Gold - Two prospectors with their pick axes, pack mule, and covered wagon pulled by oxen lead a wagon train out of the mountains. Colors are red, orange, brown, green, and white on a completely frosted background.

Roundup - Cowboy on horseback prepares to lasso one of several steers while a second cowboy on horseback literally rides shotgun in the background. Colors are brown, green, orange, and red on a completely frosted background.

Iron Horse - A steam locomotive pulls a train across the prairie amid steers and cowboys. Colors are black, green, blue, and red on a completely frosted background.

Showdown - Two cowboys square off for a classic gunfight on Main Street in front of the Wells Fargo office, General Store, and Gambling Hall. Colors are orange, brown, blue, black, red, and white on a completely frosted background.

Black Gold - A cowboy on horseback in front of an oil derrick looks back at a second derrick spouting a huge plume of oil while background figures celebrate. Colors are black, brown, and two shades of green on a completely frosted background.

Cliff Dwellers - a native American woman crafts a pot in front of a second woman and a Southwestern pueblo. Colors are red, black, brown, and orange on a completely frosted background.

Gold Strike - A gold miner dances for joy while clutching a big gold nugget in one hand and his tin pan in the other while his not so lucky sidekick and pack mule watch. Colors are red, orange, green, and black on a completely frosted background.

Glasses stand 6-5/8" tall with diameters of 2-3/4" at their rims and 2-1/4" at their bases. Perfect size for iced tea, lemonade, or even a Tom Collins. Clear bottoms are unmarked as to maker or artist. All 8 glasses are in perfect condition with no nicks, chips, cracks, scratching, or paint loss. Require hand washing to preserve the finish and paint. If you already have some of these glasses and need to complete your set, be sure to see our individual glasses listed here.
