Blown glass whale oil lamp

This beautiful old blown glass whale oil lamp with brass top stands 8-1/2" high and has a 4-3/4" diameter base. The globular portion has several small bubbles in the glass and six deeply faceted flower petal designs. The bottom portion also has several small bubbles in the glass, 16 scallops at the base, and an 8-sided stem. Excellent condition for its age: one small scuff mark on the globe and minor wear chipping on the inside edge of the base bottom. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend

Anchor Hocking kerosene lamp

I must admit that this old clear glass kerosene lamp with brass top has me confused! Two mold lines are clearly visible top to bottom and I don’t see any bubbles, indicating it’s a pressed glass piece. But since the outside of the bottom portion is smooth to the touch, and it’s only on the inside that you can feel the two designs, this would indicate a mold-blown piece. When I found one just like it in an online antique shop, they said it’s a hard-to-find early Anchor Hocking lamp. Surely they meant AH’s predecessor, the Hocking Glass Company. It was founded in 1905 and made lamps and lamp chimneys until 1919, when it diversified into glass tableware after the invention of the light bulb made kerosene lamps obsolete. Hocking Glass merged with Anchor Cap Corporation in 1937, becoming Anchor Hocking. Isn’t research fun?? At any rate, this 8-1/2" high kerosene lamp with 5" diameter base surely dates closer to 1905 than 1937 because the glass has acquired a soft greyish cast. Very good condition. One small vertical crack inside the mouth and a crack in the brass top piece. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend

Cobalt blue glass finger oil lamp

This is a gorgeous cobalt blue glass finger oil lamp that is heavily patterned except for its smooth scalloped-edged “collar”. It stands 5-1/2" high and has a 3-1/2" x 3-1/2" square scalloped base. The brass ring at the top has developed a crack over the years, and sadly, so has the top portion of the lamp, although you can’t see it unless you hold the lamp up so that light shines through it. The diagonal crack runs from the top of the handle across one side to the waffle patterned corner. But even though its days as a usable oil lamp are long since over, it still makes a dramatically beautiful decorative piece that any cobalt blue collector would treasure. Hand-painted milk glass lamp w/ brass base

This is a vintage milk glass lamp with raised hand-painted blue and purple flowers and green leaves. The brass base is intricately patterned with a ray design descending to a floral edge that is shaped to form four feet. The lamp stands 7-1/2" high and the base is 6-1/4" x 6-1/4". On its underside are the raised numbers 1066 1/2. No chips or cracks, but the underside of the milk glass globe has several brownish age spots and the brass has a heavy patina. Not too bad for this fine old lady! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend

Milk glass lamp shade w/ hand-painted florals

This is a vintage milk glass lamp shade for a kerosene or oil lamp. It has delicate hand-painted flower sprays front and back in shades of purple, pink, green, and brown. It is 5-1/2" tall with diameters of 2-5/8" chimney hole top, 8" widest point, and 5-1/2" bottom rim where it would rest in the lamp shade ring. No cracks or crazing, but both the top and bottom rims are quite rough from decades of usage. This does not detract from the shade’s appearance, and it would make a beautiful addition to a metal or milk glass kerosene lamp. (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend

Craftsman ceiling light fixture

This is a Craftsman style ceiling light fixture made of black painted metal with four semi-opaque art glass panels in a streaked white and light brown. It hangs 8" down from the ceiling, with a 5-1/4" square bottom and 6" square “hat”. The oval ceiling mount measures 6-1/4" x 4-1/4". Takes one light bulb. Lots of natural distressing, including paint chips and surface rusting on the metal, but the four art glass panels are in perfect condition, with no chips or cracks. Eames era tulip lamp

Here’s a blast from the past – an Eames era tulip lamp with a turquoise leaf! Turquoise??? Gee, sure doesn’t get any more 50's retro than that! This metal “gooseneck” lamp stands 21" high and has a 5-3/4" diameter round base with felt pad on the bottom. The base and curved flower stem have a bronze finish, and the leaf is painted turquoise. The curved stem is stationary, but the light socket swivels in all directions so you can aim the light wherever you wish. The turquoise leaf has some brownish age spots, and I haven’t attempted to scrub it for fear of scratching the paint. The base is very distressed, and in my opinion needs to be refinished, but what do I know? Lots of folks like the weathered, rustic look, especially if they’re using the lamp on a porch, patio, or deck. Enjoy! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend

Brown jug table lamp

This is an old dark brown stoneware beehive jug that someone decided to turn into a lamp many years ago. It is 30-3/4" tall, and the jug itself stands 9" high, with a 7-3/4" diameter unmarked base. It has the usual manufacturing bumps and flaws associated with these vintage jugs, plus several places where the brown color didn’t make it all the way to the bottom. There are two round dings on one side that may be actual chips, but there are no cracks. The old plastic ring on the bottom has become detached and would need to be reglued or replaced. The lamp column is two-toned brass. Add a lampshade and finial and you’ve got a great addition to your rustic or western themed room! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend

Large brown jug table lamp

If our old brown jug table lamp listed above isn’t big enough for you, try this monster! The lamp stands 32-1/2" tall, and the jug itself is a whopping 12" high, with a 9-3/8" diameter unmarked base. It has a faintly ribbed appearance and feel, and the normal complement of manufacturing bumps and flaws associated with these vintage jugs. One side looks scuffed and has an interesting place at the bottom where the color is a lighter brown. Since all of this is under the glaze, the jug really isn’t scuffed. It does have a couple of small chips at the bottom, as well as one on the bottom of the handle. The sides and top of the handle are definitely scuffed from many years of being picked up. The lamp column is two-toned brass. Add an appropriate lampshade and finial and this becomes a substantial statement piece! (Click on picture for more images.) Tell a friend.
