Poly a Venise – French language

View-Master Packet-Book with 3-reel set of Poly a Venise, French for what I imagine is something akin to “Poly in Venice.” Yes, this really is a 16-page full-color View-Master book (not a story folder) with an envelope attached to the inside back cover that contains three View-Master reels. And yes, everything is written in French! After GAF acquired View-Master in 1966, the manufacturing facility in Belgium (established by Sawyer’s in 1953) produced Packet-Books for distribution in Europe and evidently Canada since we acquired this one from a lady who grew up in Quebec. Reel 1 (Disque 1 D1001), Reel 2 (Disque 2 D1002), and Reel 3 (Disque 3 D1003), are all entitled “Poly a Venise, un film de Cecile Aubry.” All three reels are typeset, carry the GAF name, and are © 1970 O.R.T.F. Films Ajax. Both the reel descriptions and the Packet-Book are in French. This is Packet-Book D 100-F, the F indicating that it’s a French language book. Tell a friend.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Shines Again

View-Master 3-reel set featuring the adventures of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Santa’s beloved 9th reindeer who guides the sleigh on Christmas Eve. Reel FT-26 is entitled “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer & J. Baddy, the Brilliant Bear,” Reel FT-27 is entitled “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer & Uncle Bigby, the Blue-Nosed Reindeer,” and Reel FT-27 is entitled “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Shines Again.” All three reels are typeset, carry the Sawyer’s name, and are © 1955 by Robert L. May, author of the 1939 book that introduced Rudolph. 5-panel fold-out story folder tells the full stories of the 21 reel scenes. Reels (in their Sawyer’s blue and white sleeve) and story folder come in their original Sawyer’s mailer whose front pictures an inquisitive Rudolph checking out two bunny rabbits on a snowy winter night. Santa’s original 8 reindeer (Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donder, Blitzen) were introduced in Clemet Moore’s 1822 poem “A Visit from St. Nicholas” (a/k/a “Twas the Night Before Christmas”), but it took another 117 years for Rudolph to appear, thanks to Montgomery Ward commissioning Robert May to create a new Christmas coloring book. Johnny Marks, May’s brother-in-law, later adapted the story into a song which was recorded by Gene Autry, “The Singing Cowboy,” became the #1 hit during the 1949 Christmas season, and is a Christmas standard to this day. Who doesn’t know the lyrics by heart? Another Rudolph Christmas standard is the animated cartoon first produced for TV in 1964 that continues to be shown every December. Generations of children have grown up loving Rudolph and this 3-reel View-Master set is from the 1954 book sequel, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer Shines Again.” We have two of these sets and price is for each. Tell a friend.
