The War Between the States

View-Master 3-reel set of the War Between the States (American Civil War) with 21 original black-and-white stereographic photos actually taken during the Civil War and preserved in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. and the New York Public Library. Reel One is entitled “The War Between the States - Pictures of 1861-1862 - Authentic Stereographs.” Reel Two is entitled “The War Between the States - Pictures of 1863-1864 - Authentic Stereographs.” Reel three is entitled “The War Between the States - Pictures of 1864-1865 - Authentic Stereographs.” 5-panel fold-out explains that:

This conflict began just 22 years after the birth of photography. Yet it was one of the most-photographed wars of all time. ... Thousands of photographs of this war are available but only recently did researchers in the Library of Congress, the National Archives, and the New York Public Library discover how many were stereoscopic views. Sawyer’s tested nearly a hundred of the best original negatives and cards in order to select 21 for this representative packet. ... As you look at these pictures, you will see blurs, plate cracks, stains, poor lighting, and imperfections of many kinds – but you will also see the War Between the States as it actually appeared to the people in it – you will look backward through time and see history with your own eyes!

In other words, this View-Master 3-reel set is nothing short of astounding, is of enormous historical significance, and is a must-have for any Civil War buff or anyone else wanting to see actual stereographic photographs taken nearly 150 years ago by photographers living through and documenting the darkest chapter of American history. Reels (each in a Sawyer’s multi-color single reel sleeve) and story folder come in their original Sawyer’s Packet No. B 790 whose front contains a full-color drawing of the Union flag, the Confederate flag, and the American Eagle, as well as insets with two of the black-and-white photos shown on the reels. Santa Fe Trading Post is truly proud and honored to offer this most extraordinary of View-Master 3-reel sets. Tell a friend.

Price: $49.95 - includes shipping to anywhere in the U.S.A.

Apollo Moon Landing

View-Master  3-reel set of the Apollo Moon Landing on July 20, 1969, at 10:56 p.m. EDT. The Apollo 11 Mission, with astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins, was the culmination of President Kennedy’s 1961 challenge “before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth.” It’s impossible for anyone under the age of 45 to comprehend the enormous excitement of the 1960's space race between America and the U.S.S.R. or the immense national pride felt by the millions of us who watched as the live, grainy, black-and-white pictures came across on our TV sets that night documenting the first man in history to step on the moon. That man was Neil Armstrong, who uttered the now-famous words: “That’s one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind.” The audio transmission was so poor that the word “a” got lost between the moon and the earth! But even Walter Cronkite was blown away by the whole thing and reduced to speechlessness! I allowed my 4-year-old to stay up past his normal bedtime to watch this historic event and he actually does remember it to this day! Reels 1 (B6631), Reel 2 (B6632), and Reel 3 (B6633) are all entitled “NASA’s Apollo Project, Moon Landing 1969, Actual Moon Trip Photographs, July 20, 1969,” are typeset, and carry the GAF name. 16-page full-color story folder gives details of the 21 reel scenes and additional information about the Apollo Mission. Story folder has obviously been read and re-read many times over the decades and has disattached pages and tape residue where a previous owner attempted to tape it back together, but all pages are intact and readable. Reels (in a GAF 3-reel sleeve) and story folder come in their original GAF Packet No. B 6333 whose front features a composite of the Apollo Rocket streaking away from a small Earth to a large Moon. The reel photos, many taken by the astronauts themselves, are absolutely breathtaking! Some of them I’ve never before seen in full color, only in black-and-white TV images. Truly an historic View-Master set that Santa Fe Trading Post is proud to offer. Tell a friend.
